Our AGP Fundraising Appeal is LIVE...

Gordano Rugby Club has had a phenomenal season with their Senior men's and ladies squads all achieving promotion and silverware.

The Club has also seen its Mini and Junior section rise to 350 boys and girls with a majority coming from Portishead and Pill.

Gordano is a club on the rise but that has come at a cost. Their pitch on Caswell Lane is being overused and with an increasing number of games and training taking place, members of the growing club have voted in favour of turning their top pitch into a World Rugby Regulation 22 compliant 3g pitch.

Club Chairman, Ian Pope, said: “We have been a victim of our own success; we have been using our grass pitches far too much.

“This problem however can be fixed and can provide the community of Portishead, Pill and beyond with a fantastic new facility for the community”.

Providing a 3G pitch isn’t cheap and will cost the club approximately £400,000 to build. But with the Club able to provide the first £200,000, a large dent has already been made. And with the Club’s strong supporter, parent and player fan-base, they are extremely confident to reach the figure before the work is due to start in May 2023 - ready for the start of the season in September.

The whole Club has been extremely positive about the new plans coming and first team player, Tom Arnall, said: “The Seniors understand this is not about us this is about the future, it’s about the youngsters coming up and the youngsters in the area being provided with such a brilliant facility.” No more matches or training sessions will be called off due to flooded pitches, and our boys and girls from age 4 to 18 will reap all the physical and mental health benefits that outdoor teams sports brings.

The Club Chairman said: “We have so many ideas and suggestions already flooding in and we can’t wait to start raising the funds. We have plans for Christmas run, parties, sponsorship campaigns and running a £200 club for local businesses to get involved.”

The Club is appealing for help, not only financially, but also for anyone who can assist them in this fundraising campaign.
